Shiloh’s been sick lately. She has an auto-immune problem that hasn’t shown its ugly head in several years. When it first happened, after a series of scary tests that lead to heart surgery (that turned out not to be necessary) and draining 12 lbs of fluid from her chest cavity, she recovered well and was on regulating meds for several years. It cleared up well & didn’t show up again until this summer.

Her blood levels started showing up problematic again in August. She wasn’t processing protein right, which is an indicator of a flare up. She was also losing weight. We got her into her specialist where they x-rayed her chest and found a new fluid build up. They put her back on expensive! drugs to start reducing the fluid and regulate the problem again. (These drugs are used on humans when they have kidney transplants to help keep the body from rejecting the new organs.)

For a week she seemed fine. Then last Weds, she threw up in the middle of the night. No big deal. Dogs barf. Then Friday night she threw up again. In the morning, as we were leaving for yoga, we saw she threw up blood in the back yard. Okay, that meant no yoga. We ended up at the vet instead. They took her off the scary drugs, gave us a stomach coating drug & had us with hold food for about 8 hours & then feed her plain rice & boiled chicken.

No yoga. No dog walk on Saturday. Lots of puppy snuggles and stress instead.

She ate dinner on Saturday & seems fine. We had a nice walk this afternoon. I kept it minimal, but she pranced along and jumped like a  “tigger”. She seems okay. Tomorrow we call the specialist and see what the next steps are.

Can you say “UGH?”! I sure can. At least I got a walk today…and Shiloh did too! (btw: she loves that I have to cook for her. I think it makes her feel extra special….along with the new tennis balls I brought home for her.)
