On a cold and sleeting evening, I returned to my yoga practice after a week off from studio practice. I was so thankful there was a class before mine, which meant the studio was warm and cozy by the time I arrived. It was a good workout. My body was a little sluggish after being sick for a week and not keeping my regular practice. But, the small amounts of stretching and walking I had done during the past week did make a difference.

The big standout for me was doing several Camel poses. First we did them with one arm back, working a twist. Then we worked into the full pose. I noticed many worked with their knees further apart than I did, so I asked about this and learned that hip width is the “usual”. However, she then taught us a version she knew from Bikram where the feet are together and the knees are wide. I didn’t find a lot of difference in this version except that it was a bit harder to push my front body forward while in the backbend. Fun to learn new variations.

Was also lovely to do shoulderstand, which isn’t my favorite pose. I haven’t done any inversions in about a week. When my head and chest aren’t healthy, inversions don’t always feel great. Last night it was wonderful.

Not sure if I’ll go to a class tonight or not…we’ll see….
