Last night’s restorative yoga was exactly what I needed. As the approaching holiday makes life more hectic, it is nice to have a place to take a quiet pause. In this gentle practice we did a lot of hip work. My favorite of the night was a prop-intensive supine cobbler pose.
Using a strap, a blanket, a bolster, two blocks and two 10 lb sandbags, we got into this deep pose. You place a bolster behind you with a blanket as a small pillow on it. You bend your legs taking cobbler and then strap yourself into the pose using the strap. (I won’t try to describe how to use the strap here as its confusing enough when demo’d in person.) Then you lay back over the bolster, relaxing to let your hips and groin open. If you’re ready, which I was, you can place sandbag weights on your legs to further intensify the stretch. I also used the blocks under my knees to feel a bit of support as the opening happened. I moved the blocks away as the muscles released. It was lovely.
