Today’s class wrapped up my yoga year. Looking at my Konamoxt (aka Sweat365) logs, I’ve done about 130 hours of yoga since I started logging my practice in mid-June. I can’t honestly double that and say I’ve probably done 260 hours of yoga this year as I know I attended slightly less practice in the first quarter. Still, 260 might be about right.
Today’s class was full and taught to all levels (still on that holiday schedule). My highlights were:
- Getting into headstand without kicking and without hitting the wall on my first try. I was also able to hold the pose for a couple of minutes. I did lift up with my training wheels behind me (aka the wall). I felt the class was too full to risk falling without grace today; hitting someone wouldn’t be any fun at all. Now, when I get back to my regular practice next week, I will try it mid-room. Same bat channel Weds or Thurs the first week of ‘08.
- Feeling hugely flexible and powerful in my Warrior I & WII poses — really lunging, holding good form and back bending with my full spine. They felt awesome!
- Having my teacher tell me my poses are looking amazing. So much so that she asked me if I would be willing to be a model for an article she’s writing. I was shocked. I know I have a regular practice, but I also have a pretty regular body, and I don’t feel like I look amazing. (Well, maybe sometimes I feel amazing ;) ). But usually, I just feel like a student learning and growing in my poses each time I practice. Still, this is a pretty cool way for me to ring out the old year!
So, intentions? Nothing really earth shattering. I want to continue my practice. I want to get beyond my limiters, fear being a big one, and continue to improve my pose form and my ability to add poses to my practice. I think keeping it as simple as that will mean I will achieve quite a lot.
Namaste & Happy New Year all!

Did you have any idea you did that much yoga? It’s pretty cool when you can step back and look at your effort in context.
Congrats on a great year! Good luck on your goals for next year!

Congratulations on having a good year. How great to have your teacher confirm what you already felt/knew about your progress!
My only real fitness goal for 2008 is to do at least 30 minutes of yoga per week. It doesn’t sound like much, but for me it’s huge. So mostly I’m setting a once per week “rule” and hoping that it will grow into a daily routine. Baby steps…
Thanks for your posts I really enjoy them!

Andrea, thanks! Baby steps are how I became the yoga junkie I am today. I started out by doing 1 hour a week for almost 6 months, then I couldn’t resist adding on. I truly believe in starting where it works for you and it will take you along for the ride.
Brad, I’ve looked at my stats now & then, but I didn’t really do the math along the way. The other benefit I get from seeing this number is knowing the most cost effective yoga pass to purchase!
Cheers all!
