How Far Does Your Food Travel?

Digg! this story.
And what does your food really cost? I found a nice video online that shares some of the stats and points around why eating locally is a growing concern in our oil-dependent economy. You could read Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Delimma or his other books. Or, just watch this quick video slideshow to understand some of the basic points.

Really good question.
I’m a firm believer in keeping it local where possible, not only so that my food has zero air miles (its usually on the packaging where the produce is from), but also to help sustain my local economy.
I’m one of the lucky ones though as there is a really good farmers market once a week near to where I live and lots of good fruit and veg box schemes.
I also try and only eat fruit and veg that is in season as this helps to keep air miles down too.
