Almost 2 Months Since My Last Post
Posted by gardenmentor under Yoga, garden coach
Digg! this story.
Yes, I’m still alive. Its been a busy spring in the gardening world, so much so that my yoga practice has dropped to about 1-3 classes a week (usually 2). But, I’m out in gardens, on farms and at nurseries almost every day of the week. I spend very little time in front of the computer these days. This is all good! I’m getting loads of fresh air and lots of outdoor exercise. I’d like to get more yoga classes worked back in and I know that will come eventually.
For a while now I’ve been meaning to turn my other blog link back on. I just did it. Several months ago I turned it off because I was planning to bring in other bloggers. That hasn’t happened — yet. So, I thought I’d share my gardening tips, tricks, observations and experiences with all of you again. So enjoy!

Welcome back! We missed you.
How’s your 100 mile diet working out?
Now that its summer I really want to get into the habit of taking the kids to the farmers markets so we can buy more yummy fresh food. Plus making it a nice bike ride for the all around healthy experience.
Hope you’re well!

Honestly, the 100 mile diet never worked out for me. I have worked hard to cultivate a lot of edibles into my garden this season. I have a tiny greenhouse and hope to keep some things going year-round. Yesterday I spent a ton of time potting up fall greens to plant into the garden later in the year. As well, we continue to buy about 99% of our meat from Skagit River Ranch, which produces relatively locally & is a very sustainable farm. As for the rest…well, I’m still drinking coffee and tea…eating agave nectar from Mexico…eating out at places that aren’t 100% local…etc…so, no 100 miler here.
I did buy Barbara Kingsolver’s “Animal. Vegetable. Miracle” which is about living the local-diet for a year. It’s come highly recommended from several friends. I haven’t jumped into it yet as am focused on Steve Solomon’s “Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades”, which is teaching me things I never knew about vegie gardening in our area. See…even the teacher remains a student.
Glad to hear you and the kids are doing the farmer’s market thing. Pickings are still a little slim for our local farmers and ranchers after such a cold, wet spring. Still, the bounty is starting to roll in, so enjoy!
