For those of you not in Seattle, just know we had loads of rain this weekend. Fortunately, I had several indoor projects I wanted to get done this summer, and we made a lot of progress on them this weekend. Scraping and repainting our hallway and tearing out the carpet in our bedroom has been on the list for longer than I like to think I’m able to procrastinate. Saturday, as I tackled scraping layers of nasty old paint off the hallway door jams, Bob ripped up the carpet in our bedroom, revealing the nicest fir floors in the house. He also helped me scrap the overhead areas that I couldn’t reach very well. Even when I could reach these areas from a step stool, I couldn’t get enough leverage to really muscle into the scraping.
I planned to spend Sunday repainting the hall, but on Saturday evening I spied Bob with a measuring tape in the hallway. He decided to tear out the ugly trim and build new trim that fits with our longterm plan. YAY! In our hallway was a set of coat hooks that I’ve wanted to change, adding cubbies for hats & gloves. Over blueberry muffins and coffee, we spent time Sunday morning designing what that would look like. Bob made a run to the Depot to pick up the wood. He also ran the orbital sander over all the scraped trim to finish the prepping. We managed to get two coats of primer on the door jams and called it a day. The trim and new coat rack will come soon — hopefully before we need coats for the winter!
Okay, so, why did I title this “OK Computer“? Well, I almost named it “why I hate computers”. Mainly I work on a Dell laptop. Over the last year or so its become incredibly Ssssssllllllooooowwww. I’ve done just about everything I could think of to fix it up — short of wiping it and rebuilding it. Friday, as I was trying to run some updates to a critical piece of software that I use for my landscape design business, I realized my control panel was a disaster. Something was truly wrong; I was completely frustrated & ready to become a Luddite . By Saturday morning, after sleeping on the problems and meditating on them in my yoga class, I knew I needed to bite the bullet and just do a rebuild. Fortunately, Bob is always willing to take on a computer project & owned everything. He managed most of the rebuild while we were doing all these inside house jobs. By Sunday afternoon, it was back up and running with most of my applications reloaded. I have one database that I’m having trouble restoring, but I have faith that it will work. Dare I say it, nothing critical seems to have been lost in the process! (YAY BOB!) Anyway, that’s why I hate computers & that’s why this one is now A-OK.
(Note to self: Usually, I use the “Other” log for gardening. However, I did loads of interior work this weekend and feel its worth tracking. Scraping & sanding is exhausting!)
